Welcome to the
Welcome the online learning platform for the Edusexage project – “Education for healthy sexuality in older age”. On this platform, you will find learning resources for senior adult learners, over the age of 65; and also for the educators and care professionals who support them. Through the resources provided on this platform, our intention is to provide a range of wrap-around educational supports for senior adults and educators, so that they can address the topics of socialisation, self-esteem, loneliness and maintaining sexual health and an active sexual life as you age. We further intend to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about senior sexual health and activity, and provide accurate and reliable resources for care professionals and seniors adult educators so that they can address these topics with senior adult learners in a safe and supportive environment.
Welcome to our specially curated curriculum designed to empower senior adult learners with essential knowledge and understanding in the field of sexuality and aging. Our training programme comprises four topics, each tailored to address the unique needs and concerns of senior adults. We believe that fostering a safe and open environment for discussing these critical aspects of life is important for promoting overall well-being and enriching the lives of older individuals.
→ We are committed to providing an inclusive and respectful learning experience for senior adult learners, offering them the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, share experiences, and gain valuable knowledge that can improve their overall well-being.
→ Our curriculum encourages a supportive and non-judgmental environment where participants can explore, learn, and grow in the company of like-minded peers.
Join us on this journey to promote healthier, happier, and more informed lives for senior adults.
Welcome to our comprehensive curriculum designed to empower educators and caregivers working with older adults. In this programme, we have structured our topics and modules to support professionals to develop a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding sexuality and aging. Through designing and delivering this programme, our aim is to enable you to better support and advocate for the well-being of older adults under your care.
This curriculum is aimed at educators and carers, who work with senior adults. It is comprised of 3 core topics, and 8 modules, which are further described below:
In this introductory topic, we cover the various facets of aging and its impact on an individual’s sexuality. From age-related changes to health-related issues, participants will gain valuable insights into the unique challenges older adults face. This knowledge forms the foundation for providing holistic care and guidance.
Under this sub-topic of the curriculum, we have developed the following 3 modules:
This module explores the physical and emotional transformations that accompany the aging process. It provides a comprehensive understanding of how these changes can affect individuals’ self-perception and relationships.
Here, we introduce the intricate details of health-related changes in older adults, covering both the physical aspects and the impact of medication.
This module focuses on the societal views and stereotypes associated with aging and their influence on an individual’s self-perception and behaviour.
In this section, we will further explore the challenges and barriers that older adults face when expressing their sexuality. We examine the perspectives and attitudes of health and social care professionals, as well as the barriers faced by older individuals themselves.
Under this second sub-topic, we have developed the following 3 modules:
This module highlights the attitudes and knowledge of health and social care professionals regarding older persons’ sexuality and sexual health.
Ageism, a significant challenge for older adults, is explored in this module. The module addresses ageism within health and social care and provides strategies for overcoming ageist biases, promoting positive views on aging, and supporting older individuals.
This module covers the physical, psychological, and cultural barriers that older individuals often encounter when trying to express their sexuality. Topics include physical changes, reluctance to seek advice, gender disparities, cultural factors, and cognitive impairment.
The final topic supported educators and care professionals, by providing them with tools and strategies to create supportive environments for older adults to express their sexuality.
Under this final curriculum sub-topic, we have developed the following 2 modules:
Here, we explore the critical aspects of the organisational culture and policies that impact the ability of older adults to express their sexuality.
This module focuses on the importance of social connectedness and the role of health and social care professionals in promoting sexual expression for older adults living in the community. It also addresses the significance of taking a sexual history as a part of comprehensive care.
On completion of this curriculum, educators and caregivers will be better supported to provide compassionate and informed care to older adults, promoting their overall well-being and quality of life.
